[edit] Card 2

[edit] Summary

George McClain is a low-ranking Tomas agent who lives in Experiment, Georgia. He's obsessed with "The Lost Clue" rumored to have sunk on the RMS Titanic in 1912. Most Tomas think that the Clue is at the bottom of the Atlantic with the rest of the Titanic wreckage. But George is convinced that the Clue is ACTUALLY in his hometown. And George plans to prove that he's right - and that he has what it takes to be a top Tomas agent.

Stolen Archive file 5: A message from George McClain to Tomas leadership

(header McClain & Son Funeral Homes)

To: Tomas Leadership
From: George McClain
Regarding: Nella Chain
Date: April 11, 1989

Fellow Bears:

I'm writing with my weekly update on Nella Chain. And yes, I did receive your letter in February requesting that I stop sending reports on Nella Chain, and the letter from March, and the note last week. BUT I AM ON TO SOMETHING!!!!

And yes, it is true that I have a healthy interest in the Titanic (but NOT an obsession, and I resent that). And it is also true that I have not always been seen as a team player (although I stand by my vote that badminton SHOULD be an Olympic sport). But I'm telling you, NELLA CHAIN IS HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS!!! For years there have been rumors of a Clue on the Titanic, and you DON'T want me to investigate an actual Titanic survivor? Too bad! I'm going to keep sending reports WHETHER YOU READ THEM OR NOT.

Surveillance of Nella Chain:
3rd -- Subject visited the doctor's office complaining of a sore throat. Obtained peeks at medical records. Doctor's notes indicate subject is "one tough granny" and in remarkable health for a woman of 95.

4th -- Subject seen through windows watching television. Or reading. Book/television program not visible.

6th -- Suspicious gathering in Nella Chain's garden. Nine visitors in total, all of advanced age. Attempted to hide in hedge and overhear the conversation. Was whacked on head with purse. Subject's great-niece claims the gathering was a "Garden Club" meeting. But still suspicious -- why was the purse SO heavy?

7th -- Subject seen walking dog. Unusual - subject has no dog and subject has hard time walking. "Friendly" conversation attempted. Subject surly. She stated the dog was purchased for protection against "Peeping Toms and hooligans." Dog growled. Noted: Dog has extremely large teeth.

Yours truly,
George McClain (signature)
