Stole Archive file 64: A secret letter from James Cahill about the designs for Mount Rushmore
(Cahill letterhead, with inscription Official CAHILL Correspondence)
To the members of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial Commission:
Is this some sort of joke? Who elected you people?
I just received the sketches for the new monument at Mount Rushmore yesterday and I am not pleased. No, that's an understatement - I am furious! I cannot believe that members of Congress would support such a ridiculous plan. Really, who wants to see a 60-foot sculpture of President Taft stuck in a bathtub?
I only agreed to donate money to the project because I thought the monument would celebrate our great country's past - not some unfortunate incident that took place in a bathroom!
If you still want me to contribute, you have to change the plans. Why don't we use Mount Rushmore to honor our four most famous presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt. Not only are they distinguished figures, they are members of my family! Seeing as how I'm helping pay for this monument, I hope you consider my suggestions.
I hope to see the new and improved plans soon.
Yours,
James Cahill
